New Year’s Day event a tradition for Myrtle Beach area residents. How you can join
Looking for a way to celebrate the new year? Make a resolution to join others hiking outdoors as a way to say goodbye to 2025 and welcome 2026.
First Day Hikes will be held at several state parks across South Carolina on New Year’s Day. Myrtle Beach and Huntington Beach state parks will both participate in the annual event.
The hikes have become a tradition for many people and families, who use the new year to get outside, exercise and connect with nature.
No registration is required, and the hike is free with paid park admission.
Admission for both parks is $8 adults, $5 ages 65 and older, $4 ages 6 to 15 and free for ages 5 and younger.
Here’s what local state parks are offering:
Myrtle Beach State Park
Visitors can walk with a ranger on the Sculptured Oak Nature Trail and beach from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Participants will meet at the nature center. Because of the number of people expected, no pets are allowed.
The length of the hike is about 1.5 miles and First Day Hike souvenirs will be given out after the walk while supplies last. Hikers are advised to dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes.
Huntington Beach State Park
Take a 2.5 mile hike on the Sandpiper Pond Nature Trail.
The hike will be from 10 a.m. to noon, and participants will meet at North Beach parking lot.
Hikers should bring water, binoculars and dress for the weather, the park suggests. First Day Hike souvenirs will be given out while supplies last.
