NC man got severe bacterial infection at North Myrtle Beach resort, suit says

A North Carolina man became “gravely ill” after contracting a bacterial infection at a North Myrtle Beach resort, according to a recent lawsuit filing.

Ronald Cope, of Wake County, during June 2023 visited Best Western Ocean Sands Beach Resort, at 1525 S. Ocean Blvd., where he was exposed to Legionnaires disease, a severe form of pneumonia, according to his complaint.

Cope accuses the resort and its general manager of negligence in failing to ensure proper cleanliness of the facility’s water sources or warn guests about the possible danger, the suit states.

Best Western media representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cope accumulated medical bills exceeding $24,000 as a result of the infection, according to his complaint.

He’s seeking a financial judgment against the defendants for damages to reimburse his losses plus whatever interest a jury determines as reasonable.
