SC man got John-Paul Miller’s old number. Now calls, threatening texts won’t stop
Jerry Bieble knew little about embattled Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller until about nine months ago when he got a phone call, and then another and then another.
The Myrtle Beach man had just gotten a new phone number, which turns out once belonged to Miller. Since getting the new number he has received phone calls and texts from “all kinds of characters,” Bieble said.
“When it first happened, I thought it would be just a few calls, and now it just never stopped,” he said.
Miller, who gained national attention after his wife died, is now facing federal charges related to her death.
Mica Miller’s death put the couple’s relationship under a microscope. John-Paul Miller has been accused of abusing his wife and contributing to her death. The couple were estranged at the time.
Mica Miller took her own life in a North Carolina state park on April 27, 2024.
Detectives, psychiatrist call John-Paul Miller’s old number
Bieble, a truck driver who was calling from Macon, Georgia, on Wednesday, said he had received a phone call that day from an Horry County Police detective wanting to talk to Miller. He had not yet returned the detective’s call, so he wasn’t sure what the officer wanted.
The call came the same day that it was reported the 46-year-old had been indicted for cyberstalking and making false statements to federal investigators. The indictments were confirmed Thursday morning through a press release from the office of the United States Attorney District of South Carolina.
Bieble said calls have come from all over and even included one from Miller’s psychiatrist. He’s also received text messages, many of them threatening.
Bieble had contacted Verizon about the issue, but he didn’t receive any help, he said. He was told it appeared that Miller had frequently switched phone numbers. The Sun News has at least four different numbers listed as contacts for Miller since his wife’s death. None of them now belong to Miller.
“This is ridiculous,” Bieble said of the number of phone calls. “And it’s all because of this guy” and what he was involved in.
John-Paul Miller and his estranged wife’s death
Miller’s indictment alleges that beginning in November 2022, Miller sent unwanted and harassing communications to his estranged wife until her death on April 27, 2024. The harassing behavior included Miller posting a nude photo of the victim online without her consent, causing tracking devices to be placed on her vehicle, and in one instance, contacting her over 50 times in a single day. The indictment also alleges he interfered with her finances and her daily activities and on one occasion damaged her vehicle tires, the release said.
Federal investigators interviewed Miller about these allegations and Miller lied in his responses. Miller said he hired a private investigator to protect the victim from purchasing firearms. In reality, he hired the investigator to cyberstalk her for alleged adultery. Miller said he did not damage the victim’s tires, when in fact he purchased a tire deflation device online and sent messages to others regarding the victim’s vehicle.
