A woman suffered a serious infection in her foot and leg after a Myrtle Beach spa allegedly used contaminated water during her pedicure, a lawsuit claims.

Erin Conn, of Allegheny County in Pennsylvania, visited En Vogue Salon and Day Spa in Myrtle Beach in March 2023 to get a pedicure, according to the suit filed on Dec. 10. While there, the suit claims that staff disregarded her concerns and used contaminated water during the pedicure, after Conn “repeatedly” told them she was diabetic.

In the days following the pedicure, Conn’s right foot and leg became swollen and painful, according to the suit.

The lawsuit lists the spa and an anonymous spa manager as defendants. En Vogue did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent on Wednesday afternoon.

As a result of the contaminated water, Conn suffered a “painful and severe bacterial infection” which led to an acute injury, the lawsuit asserts.

The suit claims that the spa staff did not properly clean or sanitize the equipment used on Conn during her pedicure, ultimately leading to the infection. The infection caused emotional damage and also required Conn to spend a significant amount of money on medical care, according to the lawsuit.

Conn is suing for damages, legal costs and post judgment interest.
