Horry County nursing home forgot to give man medicine, suit says. He later died
A man died at an Horry County nursing home after staff allegedly forgot to give him his antibiotics and misplaced his medical equipment, a lawsuit filed on Tuesday claims.
Kenneth Reed was admitted into Brightwater Skilled Nursing Center in the Myrtle Beach area in June 2023, according to the lawsuit. While there, the center lost Reed’s PICC line, which is an inserted catheter, and failed to administer his prescribed antibiotics for several days, leading to “preventable injuries,” according to the lawsuit.
Brightwater did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday morning.
The lawsuit asserts that the center’s negligence led to Reed suffering sepsis, and later “horrific, painful, disfiguring, permanent and life threatening injuries which caused great pain and suffering and eventual death.”
Reed’s estate is suing the retirement center and its administrator for damages, including pain and suffering, medical expenses and death in the suit. The lawsuit argues that Reed’s death occurred as a result of the center’s breach of its duties.
No additional information was made available in online court documents pertaining to Reed’s condition or the incidents leading to his death.
