Burgers and beer: Conway eateries start new food partnership. What you can order

Burgers and beer have always made a good dining partnership. Owners of two Conway eateries hope they will make a good business partnership as well.

Palmetto Taps, a self-pour tap room, at 909 4th Ave. in downtown Conway, and Project Smashburger, a Conway-based food truck, have teamed up to provide food alongside Palmetto’s more than 40 self-serve taps of craft beers, hard ciders and seltzers.

The new concept opened Dec. 8.

Brian Von, Palmetto Taps’ owner, said he has been trying to get food at the business for more than a year. “It’s worked out well for both of us,” Von said.

In addition to the well-known smashburgers, named because the meat is flattened out like a disk that is cooked until crispy brown and placed on a toasted bun, Project Smashburger’s menu will expand to include chicken sandwiches, wings and shareables and appetizers including a buffalo chicken tater tot bowl, owner Mike Hensley said.

The food items are “things that we felt like that will pair with taps,” Hensley said.

Palmetto Taps also is adding a build-your-own salad bar that will be offered from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Both businesses opened in July 2024.

Hensley had already been using the tap room’s kitchen space for refrigeration of food, but now he will be using it to make his menu items.

He plans to keep the food truck, which is currently closed for the season, but will decide next year whether he will continue to operate it.
