New oceanfront hotel to join North Myrtle Beach skyline. When will it be done?

Work has begun on a new oceanfront hotel that will be located in the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach.

Hampton Inn & Suites will be built at 3600 N. Ocean Blvd., next to the Cherry Grove Pier. The more than $26 million development will be a seven-story, 15-unit facility, according to city permits.

Messages left with Hilton corporate offices were not returned prior to publication.

Ground was broken on the new hotel in October. A date for the hotel’s opening has not been announced; however, it is expected to be completed in 2027.

North Myrtle Beach city council approved construction of the new hotel in 2019, and permits were granted in 2020. However, work stopped on the project because of COVID-19 and the “uncertainty created in the pandemic,” city documents state.

The original project called for 127 one-bedroom units. The amendment to the project, and the parking lots of the Prince Resort at the Cherry Grove Pier, increased the units by 29 and will include a second-row parking garage with 209 parking spaces — 41 of the spaces will be for the public on the first and second floors, documents show. The project also will cause the public access dune walkover to be relocated.
