Some main roads in Conway, including one of the city’s busiest, will close to traffic as the holiday celebrations get underway this week.

The Conway Police Department announced online Monday that the city’s Christmas tree lighting on Thursday, Dec. 4, will mean certain roads will close.

The day of the lighting, on-street parking on part of Third Avenue and Main Street will close at noon, according to the police department. Traffic on Third Avenue, Main Street and Highway 501 Business to Highway 90 will close at 3 p.m.

The tree lighting will begin at 6 p.m.

The tree and stage will be located at the intersection of Main Street and Third Avenue, according to a map released by the city. Viewing areas will be on Third Avenue from Laurel Street to Main Street and on Main Street from Third Avenue to Fourth Avenue, where on-street parking is closing that day.

The Police Department recommends making travel plans in advance of the tree lighting to ensure making it to the event on time and avoiding traffic difficulties.
