Major Horry County highway closed after crash involving tractor trailer and car

A section of a major Horry County highway will remain closed for an extended period of time following a crash that involved critical injuries Wednesday afternoon.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area of South Highway 701 and Lucas Bay Road in the Bucksport community area after a two-vehicle crash involving an ejection and a tractor trailer caused critical injuries, Horry County Fire Rescue announced in a Facebook post.

The crash took place at about 2 p.m. All lanes of South Highway 701 traffic are blocked because of the crash, in which the involved passenger vehicle overturned.

The roadway is expected to remain closed for an “extended duration,” according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating with assistance from the Horry County Police Department.

No further information has been released.
