What results will Myrtle Beach & other Horry County areas get on election night?
Election Day is fast approaching and, although Horry County has no races this year, municipalities around the county will vote for their new mayors and council members on Nov. 4.
Voters can visit their polling place on Election Day anytime from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All voters in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
But after ballots are cast, voters will have to wait for results to roll in. Here’s what results to expect this Election Day, and when they’ll likely be shared.
What elections in Horry County will voters decide in 2025?
There aren’t any county races or ballot measures in Horry County this year, but eight county municipalities have elections:
- Atlantic Beach town council member election
- Aynor mayoral and town council member elections
- Briarcliffe Acres town council member election
- Conway city council member election
- Loris city council member election
- Myrtle Beach mayoral and city council member elections
- North Myrtle Beach mayoral and city council member elections
- Surfside Beach town council member elections
Will there be any runoff races?
“There’s always a potential runoff,” said Horry County Voter Registration and Elections Board Members Director Sandy Martin.
If no candidate secures more than 50% of votes, the race will go to a runoff election. In the event of a runoff, the new election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, two weeks after Election Day.
While voters might have to wait longer to learn the winner of a runoff election, they should know whether the race will advance to a runoff on election night.
What will voters know on election night?
The Horry County Board of Voter Registration and Elections will report unofficial election results for races in Conway, Loris, Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach will be available online at scVOTES.gov. All other municipalities have their own election commissions handling the results.
In North Myrtle Beach, a city spokesperson said election night updates and unofficial results will be posted on the city’s official Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages.
Similarly, Aynor will share its preliminary results on election night on the town’s website and official Facebook page.
Representatives for the towns of Atlantic Beach and Briarcliffe Acres said unofficial results will be tallied on election night, but the towns won’t share the results online. Atlantic Beach will post its results on the door of the community center, while Briarcliffe Acres will post results on the door of the town hall.
When will the results be official?
While election night will likely bring unofficial results — at least for races that don’t go to a runoff — those results won’t be official until they’re certified.
On Thursday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m., the Horry County Voter Registration and Elections Board, as well as the municipal election commissions for Atlantic Beach, Aynor, Briarcliffe Acres and North Myrtle Beach, will certify the election results.
