Myrtle Beach hotel gave vacationing guests bed bugs, new lawsuit claims
While staying at a Myrtle Beach hotel, guests woke to find that they had been bitten by bed bugs, a new lawsuit filed in Horry County claims.
Guests were staying at the Sandy Beach Resort, located at 201 S. Ocean Blvd., from April 24-27, 2025, when the incident took place, the lawsuit says. The suit was filed on Oct. 21, 2025.
The lawsuit lists the companies that own and manage the resort, as well as the operators of the rental unit within the resort, as defendants.
The operators of the rental unit could not be reached for comment. Sandy Beach Resort and Beach Trips Vacation Rentals did not respond immediately to messages requesting comment on Monday afternoon.
The operators of the rental unit are listed as owners of several one-bedroom, one-bathroom units at the property, as well as a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit, according to Horry County land records.
The Sandy Beach Resort is a three-star oceanfront hotel and condo resort in downtown Myrtle Beach, near Family Kingdom Amusement Park and the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade.
The four adults and three children were visiting from Allendale and Richland counties in South Carolina, according to the lawsuit. After being bitten by bed bugs while they slept, they notified management of the issue, according to the suit. They claim that the bed bugs were in the mattresses, bedding and carpeting in the room provided to them.
The lawsuit claims that the defendants should have known about the infestation and treated the property for it, but that action was not taken, and they were not warned of the infestation. As a result, they incurred unspecified injuries that required medical attention and led to medical expenses, as well as emotional tolls such as embarrassment and indignity, the lawsuit states.
