Update: Myrtle Beach driver killed in crash named. Crash closed road for hours
A driver has died after crashing into a utility pole in the Myrtle Beach area early Saturday morning.
The crash happened on Forestbrook Road near Sugar Mill Loop about midnight, according to an email from Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Kevin Peña Arroyo, 22, of Myrtle Beach, died on the scene of blunt trauma after he was ejected from the vehicle he was driving on Forestbrook Road, according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
The crash caused the roadway to be blocked for several hours as utility crews worked to repair the broken pole, according to a Facebook post from Horry County Fire Rescue.
The driver was operating a 2006 Volvo Sedan along Forestbrook Road when he went off the roadway, struck a ditch, oveturned and then hit the utility pole, Ridgeway said. The driver, who was ejected from the vehicle, died on the scene.
