This Myrtle Beach area town is one of the top places in SC to retire comfortably
Thousands of retirees make the Myrtle Beach area their new home every year.
But depending on your savings or retirement fund, some cities may be more accommodating to the budget.
While Myrtle Beach gains the most attention for those planning a move to the Carolina coast, it could be beneficial to take a look at some towns that are just outside of the city, avoiding the tourist prices and taxes.
Conway is one of those places and has been named by WorldAtlas as one of the top 10 towns in South Carolina to retire comfortably. The online travel site took into consideration health care, home prices and things to do when making its list.
The city was recognized for its small-town charm. Located along the Waccamaw River, the quaint downtown with its live oaks sports various businesses and restaurants, WorldAtlas said. The Riverwalk is perfect for walks along the water and its annual holiday decorations add to the charm.
The city landed on the list because its population remains under 30,000 and is only about 30 minutes from the beach. There are two health care centers – Grand Strand Medical Center and Conway Medical Center – nearby for residents.
The average home price in Conway is $290,000, according to Zillow, which allows retirees to “trade beach proximity for manageable taxes,” WorldAtlas said.
