A residential rezoning request could clear the way to build nearly 150 new homes on woodlands in unincorporated Horry County.

If the request is approved, more than 52 acres of land split by Freewoods Road between U.S. 17 and S.C. 707 will be rezoned from a residential to a multi-residential district for the construction of 149 new single-family homes.

Consulting firm Earthworks applied for the rezoning on behalf of landowner Sampit River Investments LLC, according to an Horry County spokesperson. The Sun News was unable to reach Earthworks or Sampit River Investments LLC for comment.

Members of the public can share their input at a Nov. 6 public meeting where the Horry County Planning Commission will hear the request.

After the commission and county staff in the Planning and Zoning Department give their recommendations on the rezoning, the request will go before the Horry County Council for consideration.
