A man fell through the bathroom floor into the basement of a Myrtle Beach house he was hired to perform work on, a new Horry County lawsuit claims.

Scott Fanning was hired by homeowners to conduct work on their Charlotte Road home on Sept. 16, 2022, the lawsuit says. He walked into the home’s bathroom, where the floors had been removed by a past construction crew which had placed a wooden plank there to serve as a walkway.

However, the plank was not secured, the lawsuit claims, and Fanning plummeted through the ductwork, hitting the ground in the basement below.

The lawsuit was filed on Friday. It is not specified what kind of work Fanning was there to complete.

The lawsuit names Lisarb Imports LLC, Lisarb Homes LLC, MRB Investments LLC and Lauriciano Ferreira as the defendants who previously “controlled, managed, and assumed responsibility for the construction and repairs” at the property.

Lisarb Homes LLC is listed as a drywall, carpentry and roofing company in Myrtle Beach business licensing documents. Ferreira is listed in online business records as the principal of Lisarb Homes LLC.

Ferreira and the company could not be reached for comment.

After the construction and repairs took place, they left behind the “unsafe conditions,” including the plank, that caused Fanning to fall, the lawsuit claims.

The lawsuit alleges that the “severe bodily injuries” suffered by Fanning were foreseeable, and that the past workers knew the wooden planks in the bathroom were not secure, and “constituted a dangerous walking path.”

There was no signage or warning posted about the hazard, the lawsuit says.

Fanning believes that the injuries suffered in the incident will have permanent long-term effects, according to the lawsuit. He is suing for damages including lost wages and money spent on medical bills due to his injuries.
