Update: Driver ejected, killed in late night Horry County car crash. Victim named
An Horry County car crash on Tuesday night left one person dead, according to a release sent Wednesday morning by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Kaleb Collins, 24, of Loris, died after the single-vehicle collision, the Horry County Coroner’s office announced on Thursday morning. The crash caused his vehicle to overturn, ejecting him from the vehicle, according to reports from SCHP and Horry County Fire Rescue.
The crash took place in the area of Highway 777 and Red Bluff Road in Loris, according to a Facebook post by Horry County Fire Rescue. Rescuers came to the scene in response to reports of a vehicle hitting a tree and ejecting a passenger.
The crash took place at about 11:15 p.m., SCHP Corporal David Jones said by email.
Only one car was involved in the crash — a 2013 GMC SUV. The operator was the only occupant, and died at the scene, Jones said.
The car was traveling north on Red Bluff Road before running off the road to the right, striking a ditch, and overturning, according to Jones.
No further information has been released.
