Horry firefighter dies in crash. He had only been with department for 3 months
A Horry County firefighter died in an overnight crash Wednesday.
Horry County Fire Rescue posted on its Facebook page Thursday that Dimario Stephens, a firefighter and EMT, had been killed in a Marion County motor vehicle crash.
Stephens had been with the department since May, the post stated.
The collision happened about 11:09 p.m. as Stephens was driving a 2020 Nissan sedan that crashed on Wahee Road near Cool Springs Road. The vehicle went off the right side of the road and hit a tree, according to an email from Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Stephens was the only person in the vehicle, Pye said.
“Hearts are heavy today at Horry County Fire Rescue,” the post said. “We ask for your consideration and condolences for Stephens’ family, friends, loved ones and fire-rescue colleagues during this difficult time.”
