How to be in a Myrtle Beach area film. It has mystery, adventure and a ghost

jlee@thesunnews.com

Professional actress and Conway resident Bonnie Ryerson is aware of the many Lowcountry ghost tales that haunt the Grand Strand.

One in particular will be the focus of a new teen mystery-adventure series that will be shot locally, including Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island where the story of Alice Flagg takes place.

The death of Alice Flagg is a well-known Lowcountry tale.

It’s a story about a young girl who lived in the Murrells Inlet area in the 19th century and died with a broken heart after her brother refused to allow her to marry a man he believed to be below her station. He stripped Alice of her engagement ring, tossed it away, and she is now said to wander the marshes dressed in a white gown searching for her ring.

Her grave is said to be at a Pawleys Island church, and that is where the mystery and adventure of the “Marshlight Girls: The Alice Flagg Mystery” begins.

The cast of the "Marshlike Girls" meet at the All Saints Church cemetery in Pawleys Island, SC. The all-girl cast will be part of a film that centers around the Lowcountry ghost tale of Alice Flagg, said to have died with a broken heart after her engagement ring was taken from her by her brother, who refused to allow her to marry a man below her status. The first episode will begin filming in November and is described as a Nancy Drew/"Stranger Things"/"Outer Banks" type of story. Aug. 20, 2025.

Ryerson has written and will direct the “Marshlight Girls,” which will be filmed this November.

Ryerson and her film crew are currently looking for locations to film the pilot.

And although the pilot cast is set, Ryerson said that the production team is inviting the community to get involved.

She is seeking individuals to fill adult roles and serve as extras, as well as those interested in working behind the scenes with the professional crew.

The production is filming under a Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists agreement, which means that it is open to both union and non-union performers.

Ryerson is planning to have additional auditions and episodes. Those who are interested can email marshlightproductions@gmail.com.
