A South Carolina couple vacationing in Myrtle Beach claims the ceiling in their hotel room collapsed, injuring them as they tried to escape.

LeRoy Porterfield and Krystal House, of Richland County, say they were staying with family at the Compass Cove Resort, 2311 S. Ocean Blvd., in March 2024 when the ceiling of their hotel room caved in, pouring water and debris throughout the room. When trying to evacuate the room, the couple slipped and fell on the wet floor, causing injuries, the suit said.

The lawsuit, filed Aug. 25, 2025, claims Brittain Resorts and Hotel and Compass Cove Resort were negligent in their protection of the couple and their failure to inspect the property to prevent dangerous and unsafe conditions.

Messages left with Brittain Resorts was not returned by publication.

Porterfield and House are asking for a jury trial to receive compensation for expenses, including medical.
