Pennsylvania woman drowns in Myrtle Beach area. It’s 2nd ocean drowning in a week
A Pennsylvania woman has died, a day after being pulled from the ocean in the Myrtle Beach area.
GeorgiaAnn McCoy, 56, died of asphyxiation due to drowning after she was pulled from the ocean on Aug. 8, 2025, near Ocean Creek Resort, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard by email.
McCoy, who was visiting the area from Ligonier, was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where she died on Aug. 9, 2025, Willard said.
Horry County Police Department is investigating.
This is the second drowning within a week.
Anthony Rowe, 69, of Conover, North Carolina, was pulled from the ocean on Aug. 6, 2025, and transported to MacLeod Seacoast where he died of asphyxiation due to drowning, according to Willard.
Rowe was also visiting the area.
