Out of this world: Myrtle Beach man’s car to appear in new John Travolta film
The garage at Alan Jones’ Grand Dunes home is open, revealing two of his prized vehicles.
One – a Batmobile that appeared in a “Flash” film, and the second, a Vetter Extra Terrestrial Vehicle that will soon make its debut in the new John Travolta film “Cash Out 3.”
The vehicle, which looks like a giant purple bean, is only one of eight in the world made by custom car maker Mike Vetter in Florida. Many of Vetter’s vehicles have appeared in films over the years.
The Myrtle Beach resident said Vetter actually recommended his vehicle to film producers when they were searching for a car for the film. Jones is being paid about $20,000 for the vehicle to appear in the movie. Crews will come pick it up later this month, he said.
The film is the third installment of “Cash Out,” in which John Travolta plays a man named Danny, who is forced to rob a bank. When the heist goes wrong, he must try to protect his family while navigating the criminal underworld. The movie is currently in production and a release date has not been set.
Jones can often be seen driving the vehicle around Myrtle Beach, along with his passenger, Timmy, the alien.
The concept car was reportedly made by stripping the body of a Chevy Aveo and replacing it with a futuristic shell. There is an LED color-changing lighting system under the car, and cameras at the front and rear.
Jones said when it is hot, the vehicle looks purple. However, when it begins to cool, the vehicle takes on a green color.
There’s no doubt that the vehicle turns heads, and Jones said people often video him driving his vehicles. As a car collector, he has 22 of them, including the Batmobile, as well as a Lamborghini and a customized truck with the Joker and Batman on the side.
Jones, who is a movie fan, especially the Marvel franchise, is excited his vehicle will make an appearance in the film.
The 56-year-old uses most of his vehicle collection in charity events, such as Make-a-Wish.
Jones bought most of his collection not to impress he said, but “I want people to enjoy it with me.”
