A car hit two pedestrians in Myrtle Beach early Sunday morning, killing one and injuring another.

At about 12:34 a.m., Myrtle Beach Police Department officers responded to a call of a traffic collision with injuries at 21st Avenue South and Kings Highway.

When police arrived, officers discovered two pedestrians hit by a vehicle, which had fled, the department said in a Facebook post. The driver believed to have caused the accident was found and arrested soon after.

The two pedestrians were transported to the hospital for treatment. One died from injuries caused by the crash, police said. The deceased was confirmed as Dezhon Overton, 26, in an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard on Monday morning. Overton was vacationing from Kansas City, Kansas, and was trying to cross Kings Highway near Williams Street, according to the email.

Bond has been set for the driver involved in the hit-and-run, jail records show. Bryan Oneal Thomas, 39, had a bond set at $50,000 for the incident. He remains incarcerated, according to jail records.

According to the arrest warrant for Thomas, LPR cameras were used to find his silver Chevy Impala to where it was found at its registered address. The report says the vehicle showed evidence of a collision.

Post-miranda, the report states that Thomas said he was “scared” and left the scene.

A Real Time Crime Unit and assisting units had begun investigating the incident, and were led to the vehicle from the accident.
