One of the best SC hospitals is in the Pee Dee region, US News & World Report says
A Pee Dee region hospital was named among the best in South Carolina, according to new rankings from U.S. News and World Report
Grand Strand Regional Medical Center was ranked the fourth-best hospital in the state, the only facility in the area to make the top ranking or earn the distinction of “best regional hospital.”
U.S. News and World Report rated 22 common procedures and conditions, like hip replacements and heart failure, to identify the best regional hospitals. For each category, hospitals earn scores from evaluated — the lowest tier, as expected — in the middle, or high performing — the highest level of recognition.
Facilities with a full range of medical and surgical services that scored at least eight high-performing procedures and conditions with at least five more high-performing ratings than evaluated ratings were named “best regional hospital.”
The scorecards also looked at patient experience surveys, socioeconomic data and 15 specialty areas of care, when applicable. Some specialties, like ophthalmology, did not have available ratings at any hospitals in the Pee Dee region. Others, like the obstetrics and gynecology specialty, had only one rated facility.

Obstetrics and gynecology: Conway Medical Center (by default) with a score of 17.2/100
Ophthalmology: Not available
Orthopedics: Grand Strand Regional Medical Center with a score of 43.5/100
Psychiatry: Not available
Pulmonology and lung surgery: Grand Strand Regional Medical Center with a score of 54.3/100
Rehabilitation: Grand Strand Regional Medical Center with a score of 42.3/100

Urology: McLeod Regional Medical Center with a score of 39.7/100
Although Grand Strand Regional Medical Center ranked highest for the most specialties, its patient experience score was lower than many other regional hospitals.
