SC tax-free weekend is back! Here are all the best deals at Myrtle Beach outlets

South Carolina’s Tax-Free Weekend starts this Friday, Aug. 1 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 3. For parents stocking up on school supplies and shoppers looking to update their wardrobes and homes, the tax-free holiday can mean big savings.

According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue, in past years shoppers have saved between $2 million and $3 million during the state’s Tax Free Weekend and this year there are plenty of deals available.

The National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics project families will spend nearly $700 per grade-school child and about $1,000 per college student this year. Lots of those back-to-school essentials are tax-free this weekend. The tax exemptions apply to both new and used items and have no price limit.

These items are tax exempt:

• Apparel: including belts, clothing, costumes, gloves, hats, pet clothes, shoes, sleepwear and swimwear
• Home: including bath mats, bedding, blankets, bumper pads, mattress pads, pillows, shower curtains and towels
• School supplies: including art supplies, backpacks, books, calculators, flash drives, headphones and musical instruments
• Technology: including printers, printer supplies, software, computers and computer accessories like monitors and keyboards when sold with a computer

But these items are still taxable:

• Apparel: including cosmetics, eyewear, jewelry, phone cases, protective gear, safety gear, sports equipment, wallets and watches
• Home: including bath accessories, car seats, cleaning supplies, dorm items, furniture, mattresses, sleeping bags, strollers, toiletries, toys, trashcans and window treatments
• School supplies: batteries, bikes, briefcases, clocks, hand sanitizer, office supplies, stationery and tissues
• Technology: including e-readers, music and video players, phones and chargers, scanners, replacement parts, televisions, computer supplies like monitors and keyboards sold separately
