‘Outer Banks’ filming in Myrtle Beach area draws a large crowd. See video

At about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, there were a group of 30 people standing in the South Carolina sun trying to get as close as possible to the filming of the TV show “Outer Banks.”

By 11 a.m., when filming had apparently started, close to 100 people had gathered at the Swing Bridge Park. The temperatues were already nearing 90 degrees with the forecast calling for the heat index to again be in the triple digits on Tuesday.

The Netflix drama is filming near the Socastee Swing Bridge on Tuesday, with part of Dick Pond Road closed for the movie set. The crew appeared to be using the Socastee United Methodist Church parking lot, 5575 Dick Pond Road, as a home base with trailers, set crew and vans filling the lot.

The crowd was a mix of locals and tourists hoping to catch a glimpse of the actors. This included best friends Sophia Deagan and Everleigh Dogel, both 13. They stood on a patch of grass next to Domino’s Pizza holding two hats and sharpies.

Deagan lives in Murrells Inlet and Dogel in Calabash, North Carolina, but they know each other through cheerleading. They are hoping that some of the actors will stop over and sign their hats, which Deagan plans to give to her cousin.

“We saw Madelyn Cline drive in on a Jeep right on that road when we were standing over there before they made us leave,” Deagan said. They stood at the church until the crew told them to move elsewhere.

“And we saw the Twinkies, the Volkswagen busses. And we also saw the boat,” Dogel added.

Others said they had seen the Pogue boat head be taken on to the scene.

Kayla Showers of Pennsylvania was also on the scene. Showers is on vacation in Myrtle Beach for the week. She heard about the filming and stopped by in hopes to see it.

Despite rain storms, crowds gather on the waterfront walkways of Swing Bridge Park in Socastee hoping to catch a glimpse of actors in the Netflix TV show “Outer Banks.” Earlier on Tuesday, Madelyn Cline (Sarah) and Chase Stokes (John B.) could be seen running across the bridge during filming. Access limited to swing bridge

It appeared the stars were filming in the pavilion of Island Adventures Watersports in Socastee.

There are police boats on the Intracoastal Waterway and officers are not letting anyone get close to the bridge. Police surrounded one yacht which somehow made it close to the bridge, and it appears they are trying to get it to turn around.

There are other boats hanging out along the side of the waterway, watching the filming.

Netflix has not released what it is filming in the Myrtle Beach area for the show’s final episode. However, the show’s two main characters, John B and Sarah, could be seen running on the bridge with a car.

Dick Pond Road will be closed Tuesday for several blocks from about 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., wrote Horry County spokesperson Thomas Bell in a text to The Sun News.
