New restaurant replaces closed Myrtle Beach Japanese steakhouse. What it will be

A new restaurant will take over the former Nakato Steakhouse building this fall.

Crews have already begun renovations of Nakato, in preparation for what will become Koumi Sushi and Hibachi by October. The restaurant will serve an all-you-can-eat menu.

Nakato Steakhouse closed in December 2023 and has been left vacant since being purchased in October 2024.

The Nakato building at 9912 North Kings Highway 17 in Myrtle Beach was purchased for $1.3 million by the owners of Ichiban Sushi and Hibachi in Conway which also serves all-you-can-eat Japanese food.

Jackie Zheng works at Ichiban for his brother-in-law, he said.

Zheng said Koumi will be an upgrade to other all-you-can-eat restaurants with a new cold and salad bar in the restaurant.

Zheng did not have an exact opening date for the restaurant.
