Man identified by coroner in U.S. 701 fatal crash
The identity of a 23-year-old Georgetown man killed in a head-on car crash on U.S. 701 Friday afternoon has been released, authorities said.
Shadone Knowlin died from injuries he suffered in the crash, according to Michelle McSpadden, deputy coroner with Horry County.
South Carolina Highway Patrol authorities said the crash happened at 3:05 p.m. Friday in Bucksport, just three miles south of Conway.
Knowlin was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Knowlin was driving a 1990 Acura southbound on U.S. 701, near Flossie Road, when he crossed over the center lane and was struck head-on by the driver of a 2014 freightliner tractor trailer, officials said.
The driver of the freightliner, Edward Leitch, 43, of Conway suffered minor injuries and was taken to Conway Medical Center, according to the highway patrol.
The SCHP continues to investigate the crash.
