NC swimmer drowns in ocean in North Myrtle Beach. It’s 2nd drowning in July
A North Carolina man died Saturday after being pulled from the ocean in North Myrtle Beach.
Todd Hilliard, 63, of Kernersville, was pulled from the ocean near 36th Avenue South on Friday, according to an email from Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden.
It is believed Hilliard, who was on vacation, may have suffered a sudden medical event that caused him to lose consciousness while wading or swimming, McSpadden wrote.
A 21-year-old man is still missing after going into the water around 48th Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach on July 2, 2025.
An 18-year-old male was pulled from the water by rescue crews after it was reported that two men were in distress.
Although rescue crews continued to search for the 21-year-old, he has not been found.
