Myrtle Beach named among nation’s best cities to rent. How much do renters pay?
Myrtle Beach was named one of the best places to rent in South Carolina, coming in second behind Charleston.
Rent Cafe named its 2025 best cities for renters list, comparing 150 American cities across three categories: housing and cost of living, local economy and quality of life.
Myrtle Beach was named No. 17 in the country overall, but the best for cost of living and housing. Charleston ranked No. 7 overall.
The average monthly rent in Myrtle Beach is $1,655, while the national average is $1,749, according to Rent Cafe.
The list reported that Myrtle Beach has a cost of living that is 7.8% lower than the national average with spacious apartments in which nearly half were built in the last five years. Among those, 57.4% are categorized as high-end apartments, according to Rent Cafe.
Rent Cafe’s assessment for cost of living and housing was based on eight indexes regarding rent cost, apartment size, occupancy and more.
Myrtle Beach fell short in Rent Cafe’s local economy and quality of life where the city was ranked No. 90 and No. 103 respectively out of the 150 cities examined.
Rent Cafe reported that Myrtle Beach has the fourth fastest-growing job market, but the second worst renter-income growth in the country.
As far quality of life, Rent Cafe ranks Myrtle Beach at No. 103 based on the fact that no apartments are located in top-rated locations, such as parks, shops or public transit. About 29% of residents have to commute 30 minutes or more.
Miami ranked as the best for local economy and Washington, D.C. ranked as the best for quality of life.
