Update: Coast Guard suspends search for missing swimmer in Myrtle Beach
The U.S. Coast Guard suspended a search for a missing swimmer in Myrtle Beach after finding no distress signals or missing person reports.
The agency reported that it began a search Saturday for a missing swimmer who was reported to be last seen in the ocean in Myrtle Beach.
The Coast Guard posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the swimmer was last seen wearing red shorts near the Ocean Front Bar & Grill, 100 9th Ave. N. The restaurant is located on the boardwalk in downtown.
The Coast Guard posted late Saturday that it had suspended its search after finding no signs of distress, received no missing person reports and no personal belongings on the beach.
The search came as the area is experiencing dangerous rip currents as Tropical Storm Chantal hit the Myrtle Beach area Saturday evening.
Rescue crews also continue to search for a missing swimmer in North Myrtle Beach who disappeared into the ocean on July 2, 2025.
Crews responded to two swimmers in distress near 48th Avenue South about 8 p.m. One 18-year-old was pulled from the water and the second swimmer, a 21-year-old, remains missing.
Agencies continue to conduct shoreline searches for the swimmer, North Myrtle Beach Police said.
