It’s not too difficult to find a golf course along the Grand Strand.

However, many of those are by membership only or are tied to a gated community where golfing is a perk when buying a home. And, depending on what luxuries, amenities and even exclusivity you’re looking for, you could be forking out some serious dough to become a member.

Country Club magazine, a publication that offers information on clubs across the country, recently listed its top 25 most expensive country clubs in South Carolina.

Two area country clubs made the list – a representation of the affluent community that can be found in the low country.

The Reserve Club at Pawleys Island ranked No. 21 on the list, while Wachesaw Plantation Club, located in Murrells Inlet, came in at No. 16.

Neither country club provides an average membership cost, but each has different plans for members to choose from.

But for some cost perspective, the average home price in The Reserve was $825,000, and $675,000 in Wachesaw Plantation Club as of May 2025, according to Realtor.com.

The Reserve Club

The magazine described The Reserve Club as “a private golf and lifestyle club” surrounded by natural wetlands and ancient oaks. The Greg Norman-designed golf course winds through marshes and maritime forest.

The club includes a private marina with access to the Intracoastal Waterway, upscale dining and a members-only beach house on Litchfield Beach.

Membership is limited and tied to ownership within the gated community.

Wachesaw Plantation

This country club is set along the Waccamaw River in Murrells Inlet. The magazine says that while homes are inside the gated community, access to the club is not automatic for property owners.

In addition to golf, members also have access to tennis, pool and riverside dining.
