Thunderstorms could end the Myrtle Beach heat wave. Here’s what we know

One of the worst heatwaves in recent history is expected to end with a big storm and potentially lots of lightening, according to weather forecasts.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, NC, Wednesday afternoon thunderstorms could be strong or severe.

A level two warning has been issued for inland areas of northeastern South Carolina whereas the Myrtle Beach coastline is at a lesser level one warning. That means that there’s a marginal risk for a severe thunderstorm to hit the coast on Wednesday afternoon, the NWS forecast said.

The main hazards are the potential for damaging winds and large hail, but if those events were to happen, it would be more likely in inland communities compared to the beach, the NWS warning said.

All of the municipalities along the Grand Strand are still under a heat advisory through Wednesday night at 8 p.m.

There is some hope that the mid-afternoon to evening showers may bring some relief to the excessive heat wave northeastern South Carolina has been under all week.
