A portion of Enterprise Road will be closed beginning Sept. 14 and continue for about nine months as part of the S.C. 31 extension project.

The closure has been anticipated for years and nearby businesses have been cringing at the closure because of the impact it may have on traffic as contractors build the new Enterprise Road bridge over S.C. 31. The closure will be between Hunter’s Horn Lane to Butler Road. Enterprise Road is expected to reopen to all traffic in June 2016.

In January, contractors delayed the construction of the bridge as part of a maneuver in the construction plan. The $190 million project is expected to be done by summer 2017, according to Horry County.

The extension of S.C. 31 from S.C. 544 to near the Georgetown County line includes the Enterprise Road bridge. Originally, Firestone, Colo.-based Flat Iron Corp., thought it would close Enterprise Road for nine months beginning in August 2014, but that date was pushed to December 2014.
