A Conway Police sergeant suffered severe injuries in a house fire on Saturday.

Sgt. Chris Johnson of the Conway Police Department is currently receiving urgent medical care for injuries following a fire at his family’s Aynor home. The home was destroyed according to a fundraiser page set up for Johnson and his family.

A social media post from who appears to be Johnson’s daughter said that the officer was being treated at a burn unit and is on a ventilator.

Johnson is not only involved in law enforcement in the area, but also served as a volunteer firefighter for Horry County Fire Rescue Station 28 for 10 years in the early 2000’s, and is also a pastor in the community, North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue said in a social media post in support of Johnson.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the residential structure fire on Good Luck Road in Aynor at 6:59 p.m. on Saturday. Responders got the fire under control but Horry County Fire Rescue said in a statement online that the “residence sustained heavy fire damage” and one individual was being taken to the hospital for injuries.

The three family members displaced by the fire is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross of South Carolina, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

The fundraiser page for Johnson says that the “devastating” events that took place this weekend have rendered him in need of “urgent” medical care, which he is now receiving.

“SGT Johnson has always stood strong for others, leading with courage, compassion, and dedication,” the page says. “Now, he and his loved ones need us to stand strong for them.”

The fundraiser has already earned $7,925 of its $11,000 goal.
