Update: What happened night car crashed into Myrtle Beach restaurant, causing it close?
A Myrtle Beach restaurant was forced to close after a vehicle crashed through one of its walls on Sunday night.
Cafe Old Vienna, a German and Austrian restaurant at 1604 N. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, suffered extensive damage when an SUV driving south crossed the road, heading in the wrong direction. The driver then made a left turn directly into the building, according to the restaurant.
The restaurant is currently closed until further notice and is unclear when it will reopen. It’s website said they will try to “get it fixed as quickly as possible.”
The kitchen portion of the restaurant took the brunt of the damage. The restaurant says it is in contact with its insurance and has hopes of rebuilding as soon as possible.
“We’re very grateful and blessed, this incident happened on a day, when the Restaurant was closed, and nobody was in the building and got hurt,” the restaurant said in a Facebook post.
According to a police report on the incident, authorities received a call from a witness following the crash. The caller stated that there were two young males in the vehicle, and that the male in the passenger seat was laughing. The caller subsequently said that they believed the young men were attempting to leave, and that there was a male with a bat threatening individuals at the scene as well.
The male with the bat soon left the scene, and the police report says that he is known by the police not to be a threat.
The police received another call from the restaurant’s owner saying that they could see on camera that the kitchen had been pushed in, and that their neighbor was at the scene.
The report says that the fire department stabilized the building that night, and that the owner had construction crews at the building.
