Here are the worst hospitals in northeast South Carolina in 2025, report shows
More than 70% of hospitals in the Pee Dee region earned top marks in a recently released report by a national hospital watchdog group.
The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit that has analyzed patient safety and care data for over 20 years, scores hospitals with letter grades A through F in biannual reports.
Using more than 20 patient safety measures like deaths from treatable serious complications and responsiveness of staff, Leapfrog evaluates how well hospitals prevent medical errors, accidents and infections.
“All hospitals should be proud to earn an ‘A,’ but they should not rest on that laurel. Patient safety is a relentless, never-ending quest to put patients first,” said Leapfrog Group CEO and President Leah Binder.
Statewide, South Carolina ranked fifth in the nation with the safest hospitals in the Leapfrog Group Spring 2025 Hospital Safety Grades, with about 47% of hospitals earning A ratings.
But four others need improvement.
In the Pee Dee region, none of the 14 facilities scored D or F grades. One hospital received a C rating, three got B grades and the rest scored A grades.
