‘Rain, rain go away.‘ Myrtle Beach Bike Rally met with wet start. Will weekend be dry?
The Myrtle Beach area has seen rainy days since May 9, the first day of the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally, but that hasn’t slowed down the event’s festivities.
There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina. And although it is expected to be hot and dry for the rest of the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally, organizers made it clear they would ride rain or shine.
“Rain, rain go away. It’s time to ride the rally,” Bike Rally organizer Lee “Spider” Webb said.
Thousands of bikers come to the Myrtle Beach area each year for the spring rally. However, this year attendees were met with four days of wet weather, including thunderstorms.
National Weather Service meteorologist Victoria Oliva said Tuesday that there won’t be any rain Friday through Saturday and the highs are expected to hover around 84 to 86 degrees.
Suck Bang Blow manager Bill Barber said last Friday’s opener for the Bike Rally was one of the best he has ever seen even with the bad weather.
“It seems like every year we get a little better,” Barber said. “We got some good hardworking folks here, and our customers have been the friendliest.”
Barber said he is optimistic about the turnout for the rest of the rally as long as a hurricane doesn’t show up like back in 2015 with Hurricane Joaquin.
Even if a hurricane does show up, Barber said the Murrells Inlet bar has enough shelter, dry space and entertainment to keep the party going.
Barber and Webb also expect the rally’s turnout to be bigger this weekend.
“People who didn’t come down because of the weather, they’ll be here,” Webb said Tuesday. “The ones who already booked everything will be here. We can see people coming in right now. It should be one of the biggest rallies yet.”
