Body found in waterway near Myrtle Beach area restaurant and bar. Coroner names victim

Horry County Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was reported Sunday along the Intracoastal Waterway in the Myrtle Beach area.

The man had visible injuries, according to Horry County Police.

The man’s body was found near Fantasy Harbour and The Boathouse, 201 Fantasy Harbour Blvd., according to a text by Horry County spokesperson Mikayla Moskov.

The man was identified as Mark Mencini, 67, according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. He was homeless and living in the area, Willard said.

When police arrived, a person told officers that they had seen the body floating in the water near the Boathouse, according to a police report. Officers were able to find Mencini and Horry County Fire Rescue removed him from the water.

The victim had injuries to his back and to his head and there was a hospital identification band on his left wrist, the police report said.

It is unclear how Mencini ended up in the waterway.

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources assisted, Moskov said.
