April prices at Food Lion came out comparably to prices at Kroger and Walmart.

What’s the best grocery store in Myrtle Beach for budget-conscious shoppers? We compared prices at Food Lion, Publix and Walmart last month, but to check April prices, we looked at Kroger as well.

To find out which store is the most affordable for shoppers, we compared prices of 10 grocery essentials:

  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Orange juice
  • Coffee grounds
  • White bread
  • White onions
  • Avocados
  • Tomatoes
  • Ground chuck beef
  • Chicken breasts

When looking at prices for frugal shoppers, we focused on store-brand products when available, or other low-cost brands if store-brand wasn’t an option. We also didn’t include limited-time promotions or special prices for members.

We visited four stores off of Kings Highway within five miles of each other:

  • Food Lion at 7631 N. Kings Highway
  • Kroger at 9610 N. Kings Highway
  • Publix at 7925 N. Kings Highway
  • Walmart Supercenter at 10820 Kings Road

Food Lion, Kroger and Walmart came out very similarly with totals just less than $40.

Kroger totaled $39.46, Food Lion came out to $39.50 and Walmart added up to $39.52. Publix proved the most expensive option with $46.23 for the 10 grocery essentials.
