Myrtle Beach has paid parking all year. But there are free spots if you know where to look
When making plans for your Myrtle Beach vacation, one of the costs you may not thought about is parking.
Parking throughout the city is at a premium and in order to get close to the beach, you can expect to pay up to $15 or more a day to spend time on the sand or check out the boardwalk downtown.
The City of Myrtle Beach has year round paid parking, which runs from 9 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. Costs range from $2 to $3 an hour. And yes, they do check the meters.
Taking a chance that you may not be caught could cost you fines that begin at $30.
But there are some free parking in the city that is just a short distance from the action along Ocean Boulevard.
Here’s where to find them.
Sixth Avenue N and Maple Street
The city just announced that a new parking lot with 23 spots has opened in the Arts & Innovation District.
Construction of the lot, located at the corner of Sixth Avenue North and Maple Street, which is close to the businesses along Broadway Street, was completed last month. And it’s free.
Ninth Avenue and 10th Avenue N
Also in the Arts & Innovation District is free parking along Ninth Avenue North and between Ninth Avenue and 10th Avenue North.
Parking is available also around First United Methodist Church.
Broadway Street
Parking behind Mr. Sub at 1011 Broadway St. is free, but it should be noted that it is about a 10-minute walk to the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Ninth Avenue North.
Street parking
There is some street parking along the side streets off U.S. 17 or Kings Highway. That is for both North and South.
For parking closer to the boardwalk, there is the area near the corner of Kings Highway and 12th Avenue North.
Horry County beaches
Accesses to Horry County beaches offer free parking.
Horry County Beach accesses in the Garden City area and along the Nash Street access are free to everyone.
