A husband and wife died after their utility task vehicle crashed during a night-time ride near Aynor.

At about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Marlton Walters, 56, was driving his Can Am UTV north on Gunters Island Road when he veered off the road and struck a ditch, said Cpl. David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

The passenger, 49-year-old Danielle Walters, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, Willard said. Marlton Walters was transported to the Grand Strand Medical Center where he later died shortly after arriving.

The couple lived in Galivants Ferry.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, according to Jones.
