St. Patrick’s Day is almost here and the Grand Strand is getting ready to go green. This year, the actual March 17 holiday falls on Monday, but festivities around the Myrtle Beach area will begin celebrating this weekend.
From its origins as the feast day for the fourth-century saint, St. Patrick’s Day has grown into a celebration of Irish culture that’s hugely popular in many cities.
In the Grand Strand, the St. Patrick’s Day festivities offer plenty of opportunities to eat, drink and be merry. Here are five events in the area you won’t want to miss.
North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival

9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The city of North Myrtle Beach’s 35th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival will return this weekend, welcoming tens of thousands of visitors with floats, live performances and even a leprechaun contest.
The parade kicks off on Ocean Boulevard at 2nd Avenue North, running through North Myrtle Beach to Main Street at Ye Olde Kings. After the parade, the festivities continue on Main Street with rides, food, Irish dancing and music, a shepherd’s pie eating contest and even leprechaun contests.
Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Market

Beyond the games, outdoor areas and dog park Tidal Creek Brewhouse normally offers, the popular spot will host a local market on St. Patrick’s Day. Between brews and bites, shoppers can browse festive St. Patrick’s Day decor, clothing, artisan crafts and more.
St. Patrick’s Day in the Forest

Tavern in the Forest is offering a family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day bash with bagpipers, Irish-inspired food, live music, local vendors and more. Kids can enjoy a petting zoo, bounce house and face painting, and for adults interested in green beer, Tavern in the Forest is partnering with Tito’s Trolley to offer free sober rides.
The Hangout’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Visitors at The Hangout can go green this St. Patrick’s Day with green beer, green beads, a green confetti drop and even a green foam party. The celebration will also feature live music, games, lip sync battles and a leprechaun contest. Those interested can reserve a spot online here.

The 10th annual Luck of the MarshWalk brings St. Patrick’s Day fun to Murrells Inlet. The MarshWalk’s eight participating restaurants will offer live music and Irish-inspired food and drink specials. Visitors decked out in leprechaun garb can also enter the costume contest for a chance to win cash prizes and MarshWalk gift cards.
