Bed bugs ruined Myrtle Beach area vacation after room infested with insects, suit claims
Five Georgia residents claim their vacation was ruined after a room they rented at a Myrtle Beach area camping resort was infested with bed bugs.
Kendra Najera, Barbara Vick, Justin Byrd, Randy Stone and James Hyde filed a lawsuit against Lakewood Camping Resort that said the group had rented the room from Sept. 19, 2024, to Sept. 23, 2024, at 5901 S. Kings Highway. The suit also names LCR Resort Management and SouthState Bank.
The renters say they were bitten by bed bugs in their room while they slept, according to the lawsuit. Management was notified about the situation.
The property manager for LCR Resort Management was unavailable, and a message was left. A call to Lakewood Camping Resort resulted in a reporter being placed on hold and then reconnected to the call menu.
The suit claims that the resort should have known that bed bugs were in the mattresses, bedding and carpet in the rental, and that owners failed to keep the rental in a clean and safe condition.
According to the suit, the renters lost money because of the infestation, including what was spent on the rental, nonrefundable expenses related to the group’s vacation, loss of enjoyment, and medical expenses for injuries.
The suit, filed March 7, 2025, seeks damages for the losses.
