Racist video appears on Horry County wildfire Facebook post. Was it a government worker?
Horry County Fire Rescue is investigating a racist video that was allegedly made by one of its employees.
The video was posted as a comment to the agency’s Facebook post providing an update to the more than 2,000-acre wildfire that continues to burn in the Carolina Forest area. Firefighters have spent nine days battling the blaze.
The 21-second video has a person dressed as the Joker telling Batman that he was going to say the “N-word.” The video then cuts to the person dressed as Batman, saying “Joker, you can’t do that. Not in Gotham.”
The Joker then says the actual racist word. It appears to have since been taken down.
Horry County Fire Rescue spokesperson Tony Casey said by text that the video was posted Monday in the comments section by a person alleging racism by a Fire Rescue employee. Casey said that the employee has resigned and is no longer employed by Horry County.
Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the poster’s comment, saying they have been made aware of the video and allegation of racism by an employee.
“We take this very seriously, have immediately taken steps to look into this matter and will take appropriate steps in response as needed,” the post said. “HCFR unequivocally opposes racism and discrimination of any kind. We do not tolerate any form of racism or discrimination.”
