From Publix to Walmart, which grocery store has the best prices in Myrtle Beach? We ran the numbers
From big grocery chains to local stores and even seasonal farmers’ markets, shoppers in the Grand Strand have options when shopping for food. But for consumers watching their wallets, some stores offer more attractive prices than others.
Grocery store prices across the country were about 2% higher in January 2025 — the last month with available data — than in January 2024. The United States Department of Agriculture predicts that grocery prices overall will rise more than 3% this year, but certain products could see greater increases.
Egg prices, in particular, reached a record-high in January, and the USDA predicts a 41% increase this year. Readers can find a more detailed breakdown of Myrtle Beach egg prices here.
To compare grocery prices more broadly, we looked at three of the most popular grocery chains in Myrtle Beach: Food Lion, Publix and Walmart locations. When comparing costs for budget-conscious customers, we focused on store brand products and didn’t include special promotions and limited-time sales.
All of the stores we visited — the Food Lion at 7631 N. Kings Highway, the Publix at 7925 N. Kings Highway and the Walmart Supercenter at 10820 Kings Road — are near each other in the 29572 zip code.
Here’s what we found:
Large white eggs (carton of 12)
Milk (gallon)
Orange juice (half-gallon)
Coffee grounds (can)
White bread (20-oz. loaf)
White onions (per lb.)
Avocados (each)
Tomatoes (per lb.)
Ground beef (per lb.)
Chicken breast (per lb. in package of three)
*Food Lion chicken breasts were out of stock, so an estimate was taken from foodlion.com
