Walter Worriax of Longs, South Carolina, was found guilty Friday and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of 53-year-old Pamela Vereen in February 2022.

Vereen was fatally stabbed in her home near Bombing Range Road, where Worriax’s DNA was found within the crime scene, according to the S.C. Office of the Solicitor Fifteenth Judicial Circuit.

“This was a particularly heinous and violent crime, and we hope that this verdict gives Ms. Vereen’s family some measure of closure,” assistant solicitor Monica Reece said in a statement.

Worriax, 42, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in November 2022. According to warrants at the time, Worriax attacked Vereen with a sharp object with “malice aforethought” as she struggled to fight him off.

“We are thankful for the hard work of the Horry County Police Department, along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division SLED, as they were instrumental in prosecuting this case,” said Reece.
