Update: Fatal crash victim’s name released, new details provided
The identity of a man who was killed in an early-morning car crash on Tuesday was recently released from an Horry County coroner.
Rene Gustavo Villanueva Rodriguez, 39, of Little River, died on the scene from internal blunt force trauma he suffered during the two-car crash that occurred 4:45 a.m. at S.C. 90 near Chelsey Lake Drive in Conway, Tony Hendrick, deputy coroner with Horry County, said.
According to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Rodriguez was traveling west on S.C. 90 in a 2001 Toyota pickup truck when he lost control and crossed the center line, resulting in him being struck by Andrico Chesnut, 25, who was driving a 2007 freightliner truck.
Chesnut was traveling east on S.C. 90 at the time of the crash, and authorities said he was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.
Authorities said Rodriguez was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
No charges will be filed in connection with this crash because the at-fault driver was killed, Collins said.
