Update: SC man hit by car, dies after trying to cross US 17 in North Myrtle Beach at night
A Little River man died after he was hit by a car while crossing U.S. 17 near a bowling alley in North Myrtle Beach.
David Robinette, 63, died from traumatic injuries on Jan. 22 at 4:38 p.m., according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard by email. He was hit by a car near 810 Billiards and Bowling, 1105 U.S. 17, around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 18.
Robinette had been at Sugrue’s Pub and Eatery the night of Jan. 18 and appeared intoxicated, a witness told North Myrtle Beach Police. The witness saw Robinette leave the bar and begin “walking in and out of traffic in an attempt to cross the highway,” a police report said.
The Little River man then stepped in front of a vehicle, which hit him and caused him to fly into the air and land on the ground, according to the police report. The driver said he did not see Robinette until he was directly in front of the car.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Robinette lying in the road with a weak pulse and labored breathing. EMS brought him to the Grand Strand Medical Center where he later died.
No one has been arrested in the crash.
North Myrtle Beach Police is investigating the accident.
