Update: Coroner names person killed in Saturday Little River, SC crash. What we know
A Little River car crash between a sedan and SUV killed one person on the scene and sent another to the hospital with injuries.
Heather Hairston, 43, died from the car crash, according to a release sent by Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden. She lived in Calabash, North Carolina.
Around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, a GMC Acadia and Honda Accord collided near the intersection of U.S. 17 and Mica Avenue, said Brittany Glover, a lance corporal with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The GMC was traveling north while the Honda was headed south when they collided.
Hairston, the driver of the Honda, died at the scene while the driver of the GMC was sent to the hospital, Glover said. There were no passengers in either car.
Nicholas Kassis, 60, was arrested for felony driving under the influence resulting in death from the accident, Glover said. He is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the accident and needed to free at least one person from their car, according to a social media post. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating with help from Horry County Police.
