The Grand Strand is expecting unusually frigid temperatures that could bring snow next Tuesday and Wednesday.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook released Friday afternoon by the National Weather Service in Wilmington said that Horry County and surrounding areas could require a Winter Weather Advisory for wintry precipitation and a Cold Weather Advisory or even an Extreme Cold for freezing temperatures.

If the Grand Strand does see snow, it’s too soon to predict if or how much snow will accumulate. While snow isn’t common around Myrtle Beach, the area occasionally sees winter storms like 2018’s Winter Storm Grayson.

Here’s what the latest NWS forecasts predict for Horry County.

Monday

Current forecasts call for a cold but sunny Monday in Horry County, with high temperatures in the upper 30s Fahrenheit. That night, temperatures are expected to drop to around 20 degrees.

Tuesday

Forecasts project that Horry County will see partial sun in the morning with highs in the mid-30s. By the afternoon, the area is expected to be mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of snow.

At night, temperatures are predicted to drop to the low 20s with a 50% chance of snow in central Horry County and a 60% chance of snow along the coast.

Wednesday

Snow could continue into Wednesday, with a 50% chance of snow projected across the county and temperature highs in the low 30s. However, by Wednesday night precipitation is expected to subside, with partial clouds and low temperatures around 15 to 20 F.

Thursday

On Thursday temperature highs are predicted to reach the low 40s around Horry County, well above freezing temperatures. The forecast calls for partly sunny weather without precipitation.
